ESTATE VINEYARD

Diamond Mountain AVA

When Rudy and Rita purchased the old Roddis Winery in 1990, the vineyards were planted in two stages. The oldest block, 2 acres in size, was planted in the 1960’s to budwood from Martha’s Vineyard. The second block, 4 acres in size, was planted in 1983, also with budwood from Martha’s Vineyard. In 1991, the von Strasser’s embarked upon a vineyard modernization, changing the entire vineyard to a high density, vertical trellis system. An acre of Petit Verdot was planted that year with an eye towards its future use in a unique Reserve bottling.

POST VINEYARD

Diamond Mountain AVA

The Post vineyard is located adjacent to the von Strasser Estate, where it enjoys many of the same outstanding soil profiles and exposures. The vineyard was planted by von Strasser Vineyards, who negotiated a 25-year lease of the property in 1992. It is 3 acres in size with 2.5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon (clones 4, 15, & 337), and 0.5 acres of Malbec (“three-palms clone”).

SORI BRICCO VINEYARD

Diamond Mountain AVA

Sori Bricco meaning “sunny hillside” in Italian, is one of the pioneer vineyards in the AVA, planted in 1968. For many years, the vineyard was known as Pershing Vineyard and the grapes were sold to Sterling Winery and Stonegate Winery who used them for their Reserve Merlot and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1998, Lindy Johnson purchased the vineyard. The very talented Tony Mitchell Vineyard Management Company handles all of the farming.

The vineyard is 15 acres in size, von Strasser contracts 6 acres consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon (2 acres), Merlot (2 acres), Petit Verdot (1 acre) and Malbec (1 acre).

VINEYARD 2131

Diamond Mountain AVA

Vineyard 2131 was originally called Marcellini vineyards as it was owned by Dale Marcellini. The original vineyard was planted in the 1980’s, by one of the Pioneer winemakers of the Napa Valley, Robert Pepi. Rudy von Strasser purchased the land in the spring of 2006, that summer he cleared the land of Cabernet Franc and replanted to Cabernet Sauvignon. This rugged, ash exposed rock vineyard is four acres in size. 2009 was our first vintage from these young vines. We received big and lush fruit perfect for our second ever 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
